RIAA Vervict: Jammie Thomas – $15m for 24 songs!

4 Nov

There has been quite a lot of heat on the RIAA recently, particularly on the blogs. A huge debate to the service the RIAA is a) relevant and b) having any effect. The latest news that they have managed to sue a music fan $15m for downloading 24 song from Kazaa might do more harm than good. Attacking the fans of music has always seemed a wrong approach to me. This news will no doubt have an impact on the illegal downloading rates, but, as history has shown us, this is only a short-term effect. In 6 months time everything will be back to normal.

“We are again thankful to the jury for its service in this matter and that they recognized the severity of the defendant’s misconduct,” crowed the RIAA. “Now with three jury decisions behind us along with a clear affirmation of Ms. Thomas-Rasset’s willful liability, it is our hope that she finally accepts responsibility for her actions.”

What’s your thought!? Does knowing someone getting fined $15m put you off illegal file-sharing?
